Pauline Neville-Jones is Security Minister in the Home Office. She has been a Conservative peer since October 2007. Until May 2010 she was Shadow Minister for Security and acted as National Security Adviser to David Cameron, then Leader of the Opposition.

From 2004 to 2007 she was Chairman of the Information Assurance Advisory Council (IAAC) and, from 2002 to 2005, Chairman of QinetiQ Group plc, a publicly-quoted defence technology company. From 1998 to 2004, she was the International Governor of the BBC with responsibility for external broadcasting, notably the BBC World Service (radio and online) and BBC World (television). She was also Chairman of the Audit Committee. She was a Managing Director in the investment bank NatWest Markets from 1996 to 1998 and Vice Chairman of the Corporate Advisory house, Hawkpoint Partners (to 2000).

Prior to that, she was a career member of the British Diplomatic Service serving, among other places, in Rhodesia, Singapore, Washington DC, the European Commission in Brussels (as Chef de Cabinet to the Budget Commissioner), and in Bonn (as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission). She was a policy planner in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and in the Cabinet Office served as Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet, as a foreign affairs adviser to Prime Minister John Major, and as Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee in Whitehall (1991–1994). As Political Director in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, she was leader of the British delegation to the Dayton Peace Conference on Bosnia in 1995.

Baroness Neville-Jones is a graduate of Oxford and was a Harkness Fellow of the Commonwealth Fund in the United States from 1961 to1963. She is a Dame Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, a Freeman of the City of London, a Doctor of the Open, London and City Universities, and a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.
