Dr Andrew Godefroy is the Head of Academic Research, Outreach, and Publication for the Canadian Army's Directorate of Land Concepts and Designs, as well as editor-in-chief of the Canadian Army Journal.  He is currently the 2009-2010 Canadian visiting research fellow in the Changing Character of War Program, Oxford University, where he is completing a book examining the character of warfare and its effect on modern western land force development.  Dr Godefroy joined the Canadian Army in 1990 and eventually took a commission as a military engineer officer.  He has held various regimental commands and appointments, as well as higher level staff and command appointments at both the Canadian Forces Joint Operations Group and National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa.  His assignments have taken him to NORAD, the Pentagon, and NATO stations across Europe, and he has supported missions in the Balkans, Africa, and Southwest Asia.  Still a senior officer in the primary reserve, he joined his current organization in 2004 where he serves as a conceptual and doctrinal designer as well as a future security specialist.  In 2008 he received the Land Force Commander's commendation for his work on the army's capstone future force employment concept, Land Operations 2021.  In addition to this work, Dr Godefroy is an adjunct faculty member at both the Royal Military College of Canada and the University of Calgary where he teaches military history and strategic studies.  His most recent book, 'Defence and Discovery: Innovation, National Security, and the Origins of the Canadian Rocket and Space Program' will be published by University of British Columbia Press in Summer 2010.
