Deborah Goodwin is a member of the Academic Council on the United Nations System and of the Strategic and Combat Studies Institute. She is Honorary Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bradford, Department of Peace Studies; Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Reading, Department of Politics and International Relations; Visiting Lecturer at the Folke Bernadotte Academy, Sweden; amongst others. 

Deborah is also a faculty member of the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre, Nova Scotia, Canada, where she has lectured on their Negotiation for Peacekeepers course. She has guest lectured on conflict resolution and diplomacy themes around the world, and has trained civilian groups and NATO, EUFOR, Police and UN personnel in diplomatic techniques.

Deborah is actively writing and publishing, and working with other international theorists to deepen the theoretical and practical understanding of diplomacy and negotiation. In June 2009 the Commander of the British Contingent United Nations Force in Cyprus awarded a UN Commendation to Deborah in recognition of her outstanding contribution in support of negotiation training to British Contingent troops. This rare and highly esteemed commendation reflects the high regard in which British soldiers hold the negotiation training that has helped them operate successfully in difficult and volatile circumstances.

Newsflash

OUSSG look forward to welcoming new and returning OUSSG members in the Autumn. The committee is currently putting together an exciting programme for the coming academic year.

The provisional date for the first Michaelmas 2010 seminar is Tuesday 12 October and details of the OUSSG Michaelmas termcard will be made available as soon as all the seminars for the term have been confirmed.

Pre-term events:  OUSSG will have a stall at Freshers' Fair 2010 - please drop by if you're new to the University or, if you're an existing member who would like to be involved in helping, contact the Secretary.
