 Professor Hew Strachan Chichele Professor of the History of War All Souls College
| Hew Strachan was born and brought up in Edinburgh. He is Chichele Professor of the History of War at the University of Oxford, Fellow of All Souls College, and Director of the University of Oxford Programme on the Changing Character of War (formerly the Leverhulme Programme on the Changing Character of War). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 2003 and awarded an Hon. D.Univ., (Paisley) 2005. He is also Life Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he was successively Research Fellow, Admissions Tutor and Senior Tutor, 1975-92. From 1992 to 2001 he was Professor of Modern History at the University of Glasgow, and from 1996 to 2001 Director of the Scottish Centre for War Studies. His books include: European Armies and the Conduct of War (1983), Wellington’s Legacy: the Reform of the British Army 1830-54(1984), From Waterloo to Balaclava: Tactics, Technology and the British Army 1815-1854 (1985); awarded the Templer Medal), The Politics of the British Army (1997; awarded the Westminster Medal), the first volume of his three-volume, The First World War (To Arms), (2001); awarded two American military history prizes and nominated for the Glenfiddich Scottish book of the year), and The First World War: A New Illustrated History (2003); published to accompany the 10-part Wark Clements television series for Channel 4, nominated for a British Book Award and translated into German, Italian, Dutch, Spanish and French). He is joint editor of the journal War in History and was editor of The Oxford Illustrated History of the First World War (1998) and The British Army, Manpower and Society into the 21st Century (2000)

She completed her undergraduate studies at Princeton University, graduating with a B.A. summa cum laude from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. She has worked for a variety of government agencies, including serving on the Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff at the U.S. Department of State and with the White House Council of Economic Advisers. Most recently, Mara worked for the United States Central Command, a regional combatant command of the U.S. Department of Defense, where she focused on issues related to Afghanistan and Pakistan and spent time assisting NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Kabul. |

Roxanne Bras MPhil Candidate
Contact: Nuffield College, Oxford, OX1 1NF vice.president @oussg.org | Roxanne Bras is reading for a Master of Philosophy degree in International Relations at Nuffield College. She is originally from Celebration, Florida, and completed her undergraduate studies at Harvard College. She graduated from Harvard in June with a concentration in economics. Before attending Oxford University, Roxanne was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Germany, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School and the U.S. Army Air Assault School. Roxanne is a Truman Scholar and marathon runner and was recently promoted to First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Raphael Graybill

He studied previously at Columbia University in New York City where he received his B.A. in political science and is originally from Great Falls, Montana. Raph worked for the Obama Administration in Vice President Joseph Biden's office on economic policy issues during the summer of 2010. He has also worked for the United States Senate Finance Committee and for United States Senator Max Baucus on defense, foreign policy, and homeland security issues. Raph served three years with the New York City Police Department's Auxiliary Section and was an elected delegate for Barack Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. He is an avid skier and enjoys hiking and shooting in Montana.

| William Clegg grew up in Sydney, Australia. He holds a Bachelor of International Studies (Honors 1 and Medal) from the University of Sydney, where he was the G.S. Caird Scholar, and was a Summer Research Scholar at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University. He co-authored the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's global strategic assessment for 2011, and has previously studied at the Crisis States Research Centre at the London School of Economics and worked for the New York based International Peace Institute, the London based International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the Sydney based Institute for Sustainable Futures. He is now a Commonwealth Scholar at Balliol College, reading history. His research focuses on decolonisation and insurgency in the Sultanate of Oman. He was the 2009 winner of the Australian Defence Business Review's Young Strategic Writer's Competition, has previously published in the journal Security Challenges, and is the defence and foreign affairs correspondent for Government magazine.
